Running Start Program

Take College Courses and Earn Both High School and College Credits. Scholarships for eligible low-income students are available and will cover tuition and required textbooks. The deadline for the Summer 2008 scholarship application is March 20th. See your high school counselor to enroll and apply for the scholarship.

 

OCA Hawaii/Jesse Cheng Public Service Internship

$1,500 for six weeks internship at the State of Hawaii Governor's executive office or the Mayor of Honolulu's executive office. Second and Third year college students born in Hawaii are eligible. They may attend colleges on the mainland and returning in the Summer for these Internship programs. Available through chongwong@yahoo.com or clskwock@aol.com. Deadline : March 18, 2008.

2008 OCA Hawaii Presidential Classrooms

For Hawaii High School Students. $2,000 for a one week paid, room/board and tuition for Presidential Classroom Program in Washington, DC to meet & to learn about our US Government first hand, meeting high level Congressmen and participating with other high school students from all over the United States. Kamehameha Schools Program

Enrichment Programs:

  • Various programs for Native Hawaiian students, including Explorations, Computer Camp, Career Academy, Performing Arts Academy, and Ho'olauna Keauhou. Financial assistance is available. Please call 843-3521 for more information.

Career Education and Lifelong Learning:

  • This program offers Native Hawaiian youth and adults career preparation opportunities, including career counseling, intership opportunities, job placement, and skills enhancement classes. Please call 842-8216 for more information.

Financial Aid:

  • Scholarships and Financial Aid is offered to Native Hawaiian students for summer school and college. Please call 842-8216 for more information.

 

Ma`o Organic Farms Internship

Students in high school can earn $700 starting this Spring Break! College students can apply for a 2-year internship - attend Leeward Community College and gain work and leadership experience! $500-$600 monthly stipends.

Na Pua No'eau

A part of the university of Hawaii system, this program has outreach centers on each island. Services are provided to Native Hawaiian students in kindergarten through grade twelve. The program focus is on culturally appropriate methods to inspire and educate students for college and career success. There are four components to the program: self-esteem building, talent enhancement, student/parent support services, and Hawaiian culture and values.

Talent Search

This free program is for public school students in grades six through twelve who come from low-income families or will be the first generation in their families to go to college. The program provides academic counseling and guidance, college and career planning workshops, and financial aid help in participating schools.

Upward Bound

This free program is for students who come from low-income families or will be the first generation in their families to go to college. Upward Bound offers a summer residential program, study abroad options on the west coast, and college counseling and tutoring during the school year. Once in the program, students receive services until they graduate from high school. There are two program options, the Upward Bound Classic and Upward Bound Math & Science programs.

Honolulu Fire Department Explorer Program

Discover the exciting world of fire fighting and witness firefighters rapelling down a wall and ascending that same wall in the HFD's Explorer Program. Washington DC

Close Up

Want to go to Washington D.C.? The Close Up Foundation selects a small number of Hawaii students to sponsor each year for a trip to Washington D.C. to learn about how our government works. If you would like to go to Washington D.C., please visit the Close Up website for more information. You can even get help with covering the costs to participate in this program.
